I purchased an XPS two bank charger last July and it went dead in December. I sent it back and they sent me a refurb unit to replace it under warranty with no hassle. I received it in January and it worked fine until today and the same thing happened. I checked the power source and the fuses and everything looks OK so I'm sure it's dead again.
Does anyone have any experience with these and, if so, are they at all durable or am I just unlicky? Also, any suggestions for a unit that will last?

I will try to get the unit replaced under warranty again, but I'm not sure if they will send me another. They kept my receipt last time. I am looking for a two bank charger under $100.
Call them up and send it back. I bet the fix it or replace it.
They are a good company and they care about their customers. I have 2 of them, 3 bank chargers 5/5/5 and they work great. Bought one about 5 years ago and the other 4 years ago. One did break after about 3 years and the warranty is only for a year. Called promariner up ( since they make them) and they replaced the unit. They are good chargers and for they $$ you can't beat them. One question, are you still using the same batteries, both times the charger broke?
I know when my charger went. It was a bad battery that shorted out and fried the charger.
I purchased an XPS two bank charger (5/5) about three years ago. It failed just before the warranty was up.
I E-mailed the warranty department at promariner and a service rep called and talked to me on the phone about the problem. He told me to ship it back for their evaluation. They had it for about a month so I emailed them to check on thier findings, they were very apologetic for the delay, it was mid-summer and they were busy. They sent me a brand new promariner model prosport 12, 6/6 (more expensive than the XPS). I have had the replacement for two years now with no problems. I leave it hooked up all winter and check the water level in the batteries frequently. Hey guys, well for starters I had a Guest Onboard 10amp 2 bank charger.
This died quickly after I bought the boat as the previous owner had it in storage for 5yrs straight. Since I had upgraded the trolling motor to a 74lb Minn Kota. I figured I would go and get a Minn Kota battery charger.
This was probably 4-5 yrs ago. It also died within 3 months.
I then spent the extra money and got a Dual Pro Charger, 4yrs and counting. They are rugged and have not failed me yet. Looking at the how they are built its not a mystery why they are installed on Ranger boats. You can check out Dual Pro Chargers. I replaced my 2 bank dual pro charger with one of the XPS 5/5/5 triple banks last spring. I have not had the boat out since last October but, as far as I can tell it is still working fine, but, now that you bring it up, Once I had installed the new XPS charger, my batteries had failed.

They were walmart specials about 3 years old so I just figured they were junk. I wondered at the time, if it didn't have something to do with the new charger. Time will tell. I put in some good AC Delco batteries. When I was looking for a new charger I was planning on getting one of the Minkota 330 triple banks off of ebay but, got tired of waiting for the right buy. Then I saw the XPS ones on sale at BPS for something like $80 and punched the ticket. Now I am hoping it is not a ticket to some cheap Carnival ride.:-.
The biggest reason i wont have an old board charger - they take alot of abuse being on the boat while your hitting waves. I have 2 portable smart chargers, a 100' extention cord, and a 2 way water proof splitter that I use exclusively. In 30 years of boat ownership I've owned about 3 old style chargers. They've never failed, ever. They've gotten run over, the charging gauge smashed in, cords cut. One was left out a couple times charging batteries in the rain but it never failed. Rusted out yes.
Reading about all the failures here (you'll read the same kind of failures at other boards too) I'm not really sure whether the convience of OB chargers is worth the price or the obvious potential to breakdown.
I've got 3 of the Guest 2 bank chargers and they are good. I think my batteries are skipping out on me, because every one of my batteries is reading something different while they are plugged up. But a part of me thinks the chargers might be blinking out too As far as the minn kota - don't know. A buddy just sent his portable minn kota charger back to them this week.
It was telling him his batteries were fully charged, but they were only charged to like 12.5v. He took one of the batteries to the parts store, they tested it and the readings said the battery was good but needed charging. I took him my portable chargers and they all charged up to 13.6v. Have you disconnected it recently? The reason I ask is I just put my batteries back in my boat about 2wks ago and was having issues with my XPS not charging and the lights not coming on.
I asked around here and was told to call BPS. I did and the guy their had me check the wiring and wouldn't you know I had a negative (yellow) wire on the positive side. Luckily nothing was damaged and the charger is working fine now.
This is my first on board charger that came with my boat so I didn't have the manual for wiring. I must have thought I removed it from the positive side when I took my batteries out. Hope yours is something as simple as mine was. Tom 2000 Bass Tracker Pro Team 165 40hp Mercury outboard 55lb thrust Motorguide trolling motor 2000 Trailstar Trailer.

I have a “Ranger Special Edition 3 Bank Pro” onboard charger. Each bank has 6 little lights and when you first start charging they all glow red and go out as the battery charges. When the battery is fully charged the last light goes Green. Now I have one bank that only comes on with a blinking Red light. At first I thought the onboard charger was going bad but now I’m not sure. I switch the cables to the batteries trying to charge the battery that I thought was not getting charged.
Xps Onboard Charger Manuals
Now the blinking Red light is on the other bank. Does this mean I have a bad battery? One last think – this is the first time the light has blink like this in owning it for 4 years. I don’t have an owner’s manual since I got the charger second hand. It was probably made by dual pro. This is from their web site at dualpro.com RED BLINKING LED.NO BATTERY DETECTED This indication occurs whenever the charger circuitry cannot detect a battery.
The charger circuitry will not allow charge current to flow under this condition. With the AC power supply cord unplugged, check the connection to the batteries for proper polarity (black wire to negative or -). Also check for corrosion free secure connections to the battery.
